Upcoming Family-Friendly Events Announced

A series of upcoming Kittery family-friendly events have recently been announced.

On Saturday February 7, you can hike, ski or snowshoe Brave Boat Headwaters (near the Kittery Point/York town line). Event to take place from 10am-2pm, courtesy of the White Pine Programs. Invite your family and friends, explore some winter trails, and enjoy some hot cocoa afterwards. Snowshoes for kids will be available to try out. This event is free and sponsored by the Kittery K-8 PYA and the Kittery Land Trust. No dogs please.

The Kittery Recreation Department also has two Valentine's events scheduled for Saturday February 7. The annual Valentine's Dance takes place from 6-8pm, and is $15 per couple, $25 per family, or $30 per couple or family at the door. There will be music, flowers, party favors, photos, drinks, snacks, desserts and more. And from 6:30-8:30pm there is Parent/Son Cosmic Bowling at Bowl-O-Rama in Portsmouth, N.H. It costs $15 per person, and you must register by February 1 to enjoy music, lights and pizza. 

On Wednesday, February 11 at 7pm, the Star Theatre Free Lecture Series presents "Twaddleton's Cheese: Discover the World of Author & Illustrator Ryan Higgins". Higgins, a Kittery native, is the author of three books, with his most recent work, Wilfred, published in 2013. Higgins will share his writing process and illustration methods in this entertaining and family-oriented lecture. Autographed copies of his book will be available for purchase.

During the upcoming February vacation, the Star Theatre will have two Family Movie Days, shown on their 20 foot-by-30 foot movie screen with high definition and surround sound. On Tuesday February 17, "Muppets Most Wanted" will be shown, and on Thursday February 19, "How to Train Your Dragon 2" will be shown.
