Shapleigh School eighth grader Tucker Johnson was named the Rotary Club of Kittery's Student of the Month for November, it was recently announced. Johnson was honored at the Rotary's monthly breakfast, held at Kittery Estates, on Tuesday, November 27.

Some quotes from staff about Johnson:

"I have had the pleasure of working with Tucker the last three years in Brass Ensemble. Tucker is a vital member of our ensemble for many reasons: he is a wonderful musician who works hard at trombone and has developed into quite the young musician! He also is a great leader among his peers. He has a way of effortlessly making others, especially our younger students in the ensemble, feel comfortable trying new things, making mistakes, and learning. I am so glad to see Tucker recognized for his overall wonderful qualities as a student and member of our Shapleigh school community."

"I'm delighted to see that Tucker has been selected as the 8th grade Student of the Month. This is a fabulous choice as Tucker is a hard worker and is constantly engaged in his earning. He is kind to all, stays out of drama, and a pleasure to have in class. Congratulations, Tucker, on a job well done. Continued success in the remainder of the school year and beyond."

"Tucker has been an invaluable member of the Shapleigh band program playing trombone for the past four years. He is always eager to learn, is a leader in both concert and jazz band, and brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to every rehearsal. He's always making suggestions for how to improve the music we are playing ("Can we change this note to a higher one? Would it sound good to put a crescendo on this note?") which I love. A real thinking musician! Well done Tucker!"

"I'm sure I am echoing most of my team when I say that Tucker always has a smile on his face and is extremely hard-working. He perseveres through any and every challenge and always makes sure to ask questions and participates in class everyday. It truly is a pleasure having Tucker in class!"
