Shapleigh School students in grades 4-6 exercised their right to vote on Thursday, October 23, as 223 students took part in the school's mock election. With the help of Volunteer/Mentor Coordinator Carol Lombardi and Diane Kulyk, students heard about the three primary candidates running for Maine Governor (Republican incumbent Paul LePage, Democrat Mike Michaud, and Independent Eliot Cutler, received a ballot, went to a private "booth", and cast their anonymous ballot before receiving a thank-you sticker (students could also choose a "write-in" candidate).

The final results were tallied on Friday, and Michaud was declared the winner with 93 votes. Cutler was second with 79 votes, and LePage was third with 51 votes.
