Shapleigh's sixth grade students visited the Gulf of Maine Research Institute's LabVenture in Portland March 5 and 6. While there, students engaged in several hands-on demonstrations, learning about such subjects as lobster fishing, climate change, and complex systems. Students were able to perform research on the length and gender of lobsters, take part in interactive virtual displays, and collaborate on their findings with the GMRI's expert staff. Students also traveled in the GMRI's LabVenture! bus, and were given login information to the GMRI's Complex Systems website, mystery.gmri.org.
