Seventh Grade Visits Museum Of Fine Arts In Boston

On Tuesday, March 13th, Shapleigh's seventh graders went on a field trip to the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) in Boston. Students chose to take a tour with a museum guide to view art of Ancient Egypt or Asia. After the tour, students participated in an art-making activity with instructors from the MFA. The students from the the Egyptian tour created small clay sculptures to represent something they would like to take into the afterlife with them like ancient Egyptians did. Several students chose to bring i-Pods and video games with them into the afterlife. Another student decided milk and cookies were two things he couldn't live without in the afterlife! Students who went on the tour of the Asian wing of the museum created Chinese and Japanese calligraphy and drawings with ink and brushes.

A trip to the MFA is an annual tradition for Shapleigh's seventh graders. This is the third year Shapleigh students have visited the museum. This wonderful experience for students to explore art and culture is made possible by grants from the MFA and money for transportation from the K-8 PTA!
