Shapleigh School sixth grader Meredith McGonigle and fifth grader Decker Economou were named the Rotary Club of Kittery's Students of the Month for February and January, respectively. Meredith and Decker were honored at the Rotary's monthly breakfast, held at Kittery Estates, on Tuesday, February 26.

According to staff, "Meredith is an incredibly conscientious student. She works hard to challenge herself. The sixth grade team can often see her engaging her peers in academic efforts. She is a model student who tries her best on all assignments- formative and summative. She is meticulous in her efforts in all activities and is a talented artist who uses any free time at school on furthering her art skills. We are so proud of her efforts and happy to honor her as our 2019 student of the month!"

Decker "arrives at school each day with a smile and ready to rock and roll. He moves through his day with a kindness and understanding for others rarely seen among his peers. His enthusiasm for his preferred topics is so contagious and he ignites others with this energy! He has a quick smile and a great sense of humor:) I have enjoyed seeing him create worlds of his own thoughts and characters in his art, and I love that he enjoys sharing these with us! Being a recipient of this creation has been an honor:) He rises to challenges, has a mature sense of fairness, respectfully advocates for himself and others and instinctively looks out for others. I have thoroughly enjoyed having this young man in my class and look forward to see what the rest of the year brings!!"
