Shapleigh School fifth grader Quinn Marquis, and fourth grader Luna Velandry, were named Shapleigh School's Rotary Club of Kittery's Students of the Month for January, it was recently announced. Marquis and Velandry were honored at the Rotary's monthly Student of the Month Breakfast, held at Kittery Estates, on Tuesday, January 30.

Some quotes from staff about Quinn:

"Quinn is a quiet but determined student. She has all of the attributes of a top student. She is conscientious and hardworking. Yet she will not be the one to toot her own horn or to detract from other student's accomplishments. To the contrary, she is more likely to assist other students who may be struggling. She is also willing to help her teachers. Quinn has a great sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and willingness to help. We're lucky to have such an amazing student in 5th grade."

"Quinn is an amazing girl who is a role model in and out of the classroom. She works very hard to stay caught up on her work and to push herself to get ahead and complete challenges when they are available. She is attentive to directions and respectful to everyone she meets. Quinn is always on the lookout for how to help others, whether it is a peer or a teacher, and she does everything with a smile on her face! I thoroughly enjoy having her kind heart, strong work ethic, and positive attitude in class each day!"

A quote from staff about Luna:

"Luna is an exemplary student and a role model to her classmates. She has a passion for reading that is contagious and inspires me to read more! She is always so excited to share the newest book she has started and share how amazing it is and how much I will love it. Her love of reading spreads to others and she has encouraged many classmates to try books they normally would not. That is such a gift! I look forward every day to hearing what she has learned or what funny anecdote she has to share. Luna strives to do her best in everything that she works on. She is dedicated and driven. Her excitement for learning is enviable. She has a style and confidence that is all her own. I love this about her. She is such a joy to have in the classroom!"
