Later School Start Forum To Be Held Wednesday

posted May 1, 2017, 5:35 AM by Seth Cole
A second Later School Start Forum will take place on Wednesday from 6-7:30pm in the Traip Library. Earlier this year, a General Informational session was held, and the scientific research regarding adolescent sleep times and the effect on student learning at school was discussed. An administrator where the change has been implemented also was present, and he shared his experiences.

At this time, we need to start looking at the benefits gained and the obstacles faced if we decide to make a change in school start times. Please remember we are still in the information-gathering phase, with an anticipated decision by the Kittery School Committee in Dec. 2017 for possible implementation in the 2018-19 school year.

The Forum is an opportunity to have a community conversation and to listen to one another. The input gathered will be used to plan for future forums.

At this session, the following questions will be discussed and feedback collected:

·      What would be the possible time configurations for each school?

·      How would any proposed change affect transportation?

·      What effects would this have on after school athletics, clubs, and activities?

·      What effects would this have on families and their schedules?

Parents, staff, students and community members are urged to join us for the discussion….your voice and opinion matters as we plan for the future.
