Shapleigh School fifth grader edged out a field of 10 of Shapleigh School's strongest geography students on Thursday, winning the annual National Geographic Geography Bee. The after-school competition, held in the music room, featured two of Shapleigh's best geography students from each grade level from 4-8. Students answered a variety of questions - mostly correctly - about United States geography, before the competition intensified to include world geography.

Finishing in second place was eighth grade Madelyn Battcock-Emerson, while seventh grader Jordan Kofos placed third. Fellow seventh grader Joseph Roy and eighth grader Darshan Snow rounded out the top-five. Other competitiors included: sixth graders Kevin Kulyk and Colin Martin, fifth grader Abram Toy, and fourth graders Caleb French and Emilio Jakubek.

The competition was organized but Shapleigh's social studies teachers. Congratulations to all participants!
