Author Skypes With Shapleigh Seventh & Eighth Graders

Shapleigh School seventh and eighth graders Skyped with middle school author Elizabeth Atkinson as part of Literacy Day on Wednesday, November 15. Students asked Atkinson a wide array of questions, ranging from her writing process, to getting work published, to creating titles for her books. Atkinson, who lives in Western Maine and the North Shore of Massachusetts, She is best known for the book "I, Emma Freke", and has also written popular books such as From Alice To Zen, The Sugar Mountain Snow Ball, and The Island Of Beyond. Shapleigh students in all five grade levels spent their Early Release Day on Wednesday by participating in various literary activities. Fourth graders created "Magnetic Poetry", fifth graders performed "Readers Theater", and sixth and eighth graders took part in "Blackout Poetry". Thank you to literacy coach Allison Le for organizing today's activities!
